FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit or ESA inspection for residential electrical work?

Yes. In Ontario, most electrical work—especially for renovations, service upgrades, or new installations—requires a permit and inspection from the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). As authorized licensed electrical contractors, we take care of all required permits and schedule inspections on your behalf.

What size electrical service do I need for my home?

It depends on your home’s size and power needs. Most modern homes require a 200A service, especially if you have electric heating, EV chargers, or plan future additions. We assess your load requirements and upgrade your panel accordingly, meeting all code and utility standards.

Do you install EV chargers in residential homes?

Yes. We provide certified installation of Level 2 EV chargers, including dedicated circuits, panel upgrades if needed, and inspection. We’ll help you choose the right charger and ensure it’s safely installed and future-proof.

How soon can you start a project, and how long will it take?

Timelines depend on the scope of work. Small jobs like lighting upgrades or EV charger installations may be completed in one day, while larger renovations or new constructions require planning and coordination. We provide a clear schedule after a site visit and always aim for timely, efficient execution.

Can you help troubleshoot flickering lights or tripping breakers?

Absolutely. We offer troubleshooting and repair services to identify the root cause of electrical issues, including overloaded circuits, faulty wiring, or loose connections. Safety is our top priority—we’ll ensure everything is up to code.

Can you provide a quote without visiting the property?
  • We can offer a rough estimate based on descriptions or drawings, but for accurate pricing and to identify potential issues, an on-site assessment is highly recommended—especially for renovations, service upgrades, or custom lighting plans.
What’s the difference between a 100A and 200A service? Should I upgrade?
  • A 100A service may be insufficient for modern homes with high-demand appliances, EV chargers, or future additions. Upgrading to 200A or higher provides more capacity, improves safety, and increases your home’s value. We’ll perform a load calculation to help you decide.
Do I need to change all my wiring during a renovation?
  • Not always. If your existing wiring is safe and meets code, we can often reuse it. However, old aluminum or knob-and-tube wiring must be replaced to meet today’s standards. We assess each case during the initial inspection.
Can I install my own light fixtures and just hire you for wiring?

Yes. You’re welcome to supply your own fixtures, and we will handle safe, code-compliant installation. Just ensure the fixtures are certified for use in Canada (CSA, ULc, or equivalent).

  •
Are your electricians licensed and insured?
  • Yes. All our electricians are fully licensed by the Ontario College of Trades and carry valid liability insurance, ensuring compliance and protection on every job.
Do you offer electrical inspections for home purchases or sales?

Yes. We provide detailed pre-purchase electrical inspections for buyers, and ESA deficiency corrections for sellers. This helps prevent surprises during the closing process.

Can you install electrical for my new basement apartment or rental unit?

Absolutely. We handle legal second units, including separate metering, panel installations, and compliance with ESA and municipal requirements.

What areas do you serve in Ontario?
  • We primarily serve the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Halton Hills, Markham, Richmond Hill, Scarborough, Pickering, Oakville, Etobicoke and surrounding cities. Contact us to confirm service availability in your area.
Is aluminum wiring in my home dangerous?

Aluminum wiring from the 1960s–70s can be a fire hazard if not maintained properly. We offer aluminum wiring inspection and remediation, including upgrades or approved connection methods to bring your system up to standard.

Do you install backup generators for residential homes?

Yes. We install automatic standby generators and manual transfer switches, so your home stays powered during outages. We handle sizing, permitting, wiring, and startup testing.

Will your work be inspected by ESA?

Yes. As a licensed electrical contractor in Ontario, we file all necessary Notifications of Work with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). Inspections are scheduled for rough-in and final stages where required, and we provide clients with ESA certificates once approved.

  •
Can I live in my home while electrical work is being done?

In most cases, yes. For smaller jobs like lighting upgrades or EV charger installations, there’s minimal disruption. For larger renovations or service upgrades, we plan the work to minimize downtime and communicate clearly about any necessary temporary power shutdowns.

Is electrical work covered by my home insurance?

Generally, electrical upgrades and repairs are considered maintenance and may not be covered by insurance. However, upgrading your electrical system (e.g., removing knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring) may actually reduce your premiums. Check with your insurance provider and ask us for documentation to support your upgrade.

How can I make sure the work you do meets Ontario Electrical Code?

All work we perform strictly follows the latest Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC). Our licensed electricians stay current with code updates, and all projects are inspected by ESA when required—giving you peace of mind and full legal compliance.

  •
What should I prepare before the electrical work begins?

We ask clients to ensure the work area is accessible and free of furniture or personal items. If heavy equipment is required (e.g., for ceiling access), we’ll discuss it in advance. For outdoor work, please secure pets and unlock gates or sheds if needed.

How much notice do you need to start a job?
  • It depends on the project. Smaller service calls can often be scheduled within a few days. Larger jobs like panel upgrades or renovations may require 1–2 weeks lead time to coordinate permits, materials, and inspections. We always provide a clear timeline after a site review.
